From Omaru we traveled to the Oliver Farm to see the mother of a friend from Beijing. Over several days we learned about the farming community, how her son-in-law makes furniture from recycled native woods, and ate lunch at the local Opihi Winery www.opihi.co.nz/. New Zealander's (Kiwi's) are innovative people who adapt to changing conditions. For example, recently many converted their farms from sheep to dairy cattle. It was a real pleasure to meet Jenny and her extended family and friends.
