Allagash Wilderness Waterway

Many would consider the highlight of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail to be the Allagash Wilderness Waterway.  It is certainly the most popular with canoeists and kayakers.  Many groups take longer trips here and several summer camp groups crossed my path.  The area is well kept and actively patrolled by a Ranger system.  Campsites are well sited and maintained.  A mix of rivers, streams and lakes provide diversity and challenge.  The final stretch of the river has a nice mix of quickwater and Class I & II rapids mixed with a little bit of deadwater.  Scenery is excellent and there is plenty of wildlife that can be seen, especially at the beginning and end of the day.  If you like paddling, plan a visit!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allagash_River
